Industry

Vitebsk oblast is a highly developed industrial region of Belarus. The aggregate industrial output of more than 300 manufacturers of the oblast accounts for 18 per cent of the total national industrial production.

The contribution of each industry of the oblast to the total national industrial output stands as following: fuel industry – 47 per cent, power industry – 28.5 per cent, light industry – 24 per cent, chemical and petro-chemical industry 12.5 per cent, food industry – 12 per cent, the production of construction materials – nearly 10 per cent.

 The companies of the fuel and energy sectors generate 55 per cent of the aggregate industrial output of Vitebsk oblast. Among these companies there is a major Belarus’ oil producer Naftan (founded in 1963). The best performers among privately-owned companies include a footwear producer Marko, food producers Vikos – Food Products and Vitella, furniture producer Unidrev, producer of apparel for children Bel-Bimbo and lingerie-maker Imelda.
