Belarus’ Capital of Culture event to make best national achievements available
POLOTSK, 21 January (BelTA) – The Belarusian Capital of Culture event will make the best achievements of the national culture available for the residents of all Belarusian towns and regions, Culture Minister of Belarus Pavel Latushko said during the ceremony of signing an action plan of the Capital of Culture 2010 event in Polotsk on 21 January. “Our major goal is to show that every town, every region of Belarus can become a cultural capital,” the minister stressed. Pavel Latushko believes it is symbolic that Polotsk has opened the list of the Belarusian cultural capitals. “In the Belarusian history Polotsk was often the first, it is the capital of the oldest duchy. The ancient Belarusian culture has its roots in Polotsk. A lot of outstanding people came from this town is also covered with military glory,” he said. According to the minister, Polotsk will make a decent example for other regions of the country. Pavel Latushko does not rule out an opportunity that Belarusian towns may take part in the European Capital of Culture event in the future. The Belarusian Capital of Culture 2010 action plan includes nearly 60 events. The cultural capital is ready to implement any new and interesting proposals.
